EU candidate status for Ukraine will be recommended by the European Commission, but with conditions

The European Commission next week is likely to recommend giving Ukraine candidate status for EU membership. However, conditions will be put forward with respect to Kyiv.

According to Bloomberg sources, the recommendation of the European Commission will contain conditions related to the rule of law and anti-corruption legislation.

The publication emphasizes that Ukraine still needs to overcome the objections of some participating countries that oppose it, as well as the fact that today there is no accelerated procedure for joining the EU. It is also reported that Germany is leaning towards providing conditional status of a candidate.

If Ukraine still receives the status of a candidate, then the official procedure for joining the European Union will begin. It is noteworthy that Croatia, which today was the last to join the EU, has gone from candidacy to membership in 10 years.
