Details: The new sanctions regime bans EU exports to Iran of components used in the construction and production of drones, as well as travel restrictions and asset freezes on Iranians responsible for Iran’s drone program.

The EU sanctions regime is in addition to three previously adopted sanctions against Iran over its development of drones. The last of the packages was approved in February 2023.

Also, the Council of the European Union decided to include six Iranian individuals in two already existing sanctions regimes for Iran’s military support of Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine and support for the Syrian government of Bashar al-Assad.

These individuals are subject to an asset freeze and EU citizens and companies are prohibited from providing funds to them. They are also subject to travel restrictions that prevent them from entering or transiting through the EU.

This was preceded: Officially Tehran acknowledged, which supplied Russia with a small batch of kamikaze drones before a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. But the media repeatedly describedhow exactly Moscow gets weapons from Iran.

In early July, the British Foreign Office announced plans to introduce a new sanctions regime against Iran, which would include imposing restrictions on “hostile activities”, including military assistance to aggression.
