Dunakeszi’s popular dancers throughout the city successfully participated in the European Championship of the Hungarian Spectacle Sports Association, which was held at the end of June in Balatonfüred, from which the students of Márta Nagy and her fellow instructors were able to return home with five gold medals, two silver medals and five gold certifications.
Between June 28 and July 2, 2023, dance played the main role in the Balaton Leisure and Conference Center. During the five days of the European Championship, nearly a thousand competition numbers were presented by child, junior and adult dancers, solo and in other different formations. In the diverse dance categories of the category “A” competition palette, the hip-hop and rock dance groups spun one after the other with a whirling momentum, then Latin dancers glittering in sequined dresses, and finally a Slovak ballet group dancing Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake brought quiet harmony.
On Sunday, feverish excitement in the dressing rooms preceded the performances of the EtvieDanse Dance Group from Dunakesz, which we accompanied to the competition. On this one day, their dancers took the stage twelve times in competitions belonging to the Dance category of Artistic Dances, so that they could finally receive five gold medals, two silver medals and another five gold ratings at the announcement of the results that lasted into the evening. The competition demands discipline and speed from the girls, who change clothes from dance to dance, do their hair, so that the look that best suits the given melody and choreography strengthens the artistic effect of the dances practiced throughout the year. For the piece called Crazy Orchestra, in which an orchestra is presented with mechanical movements directed by one of the conductors, white satin pants and a ballerina bun are on display. While the soft wave in the hair is quickly prepared for the choreography reminiscent of African dance between the two competitions. Each performance takes only a few minutes, preceded by a whole year of preparation. Girls practice ballet moves, relax, learn lifts and build choreography. They do all of this as a close-knit community, as they grow up from group to group, starting as rubies as children, then becoming emeralds and sapphires, to finally join the biggest, the amethyst dance troupe.
At the end of the competition period, there is a rest period – partly forced rest due to lack of space. Their dream is to one day have a permanent dance hall where they can rehearse at any time.
