Ethnic armed groups invade Myanmar military camps

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Armed ethnic group Army Kachin Independence (KIA) raided the camp Myanmar military causing clashes on Thursday (11/3).

KIA spokesman Colonel Naw Bu said his party ambushed a military camp near Sal Zin village, in Mohnyin district, Kachin state, Myanmar in the early hours of the morning.

The attack was immediately responded to by the Myanmar military, which launched a counterattack using fighter jets.

“We don’t know the details. But our central command has not issued any orders to ambush military camps or clash in cities,” he told Myanmar Now.

But Naw Bu said the KIA camp had been ambushed by Myanmar military forces in Kutan city, Shan state.

He noted that two KIA camps were ambushed by Myanmar military forces over the past month.

Tensions have risen between the army and ethnic armed groups since the military seized power in a coup on February 1.

In the days following the coup, the Myanmar army has clashed with the Karen National Union and the Shan State Restoration Council. The two signed the National Armistice Agreement (NCA).

On February 20, the 10 armed groups that signed the NCA announced they would postpone a political meeting for negotiations with the junta.

The announcement also said the groups supported the civil disobedience movement (CDM) and other forms of public resistance to the coup and would look for ways to support the people of Myanmar.

According to Asia NewsThere are growing calls for various armed ethnic groups (Shan, Kachin, Karen, Chin, Arakan) to fight the national army led by the Myanmar military junta by forming a single federal army.

It was seen as a response to the ongoing coup and possibly as an attempt to destabilize Myanmar’s military. If this direction is consolidated, civil war will be inevitable.

However, on Thursday (11/3) the ruling military council revoked the Arakan Army label as a terrorist organization.

It is known that the Arakan Army had fought with Kachin groups in the north, as well as in Rakhine against local residents and Rohingya.
