According to what the Egyptian expert, Abbas Sharqi, told Al-Arabiya.net and Al-Hadath.net, the third storage ended on August 11, 2022, after storing a total of 17 billion m3, and water overflowed over the middle corridor, and this continued until Ethiopia began draining the middle corridor to complete construction. In preparation for the fourth storage, therefore, it opened the two discharge gates on January 8, 2023, adding that on February 23, Ethiopia closed the western gate, contenting itself with the eastern one, to pass about 25 million m3 / day, and this continued until the end of June, when the western gate was opened again now.

The Egyptian expert said that the daily flow of water increased to about 60 million m3 / day, and this prompted the Ethiopian Prime Minister to say that the fourth storage has been extended to September, as the discharge of the second gate means passing about another billion m3 during the months of July and August, which will delay the end of Storage is about 4 days, because the rate of revenue at the end of August and the beginning of September will be about 500 million m3 per day.
Sharaki added that the storage of 17 billion m3 during the past three years has caused damage to Egypt and Sudan, because the one billion of water that Ethiopia stores, in return for which Egypt spends billions of pounds to compensate for it, by treating agricultural drainage water, lining agricultural canals and greenhouses, and determining the area of rice at one million acres. .
The Egyptian expert said that Ethiopia aims to reach, in the fourth filling, about 20 to 25 billion cubic meters at once, and this amount is equivalent to half of the Blue Nile’s annual revenue and 45% of Egypt’s annual share, stressing that had it not been for the High Dam, 5 million acres in Egypt would have stopped farming, which is most of the land. the valley.
And Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed had confirmed during the twenty-eighth regular session of the Ethiopian Parliament last Thursday that the fourth filling of the Renaissance Dam will extend until next September so that we do not harm the two downstream countries, indicating that the dam is currently approaching the start of the fourth filling and that the previous three stages did not affect Egypt and Sudan.
And before, Egyptian experts warned that Ethiopia would take advantage of the war and the preoccupation of Sudan and Egypt with it, and end the fourth filling of the dam away from them.
A few days ago, Ethiopia announced again that it had finished building 90% of the dam, amid the escalation of the crisis with the two downstream countries due to the lack of agreement on filling and operation, and Addis Ababa taking a unilateral decision to act without advice or coordination with the two countries.
