This year’s edition of the Stockholm marathon eventually became a settlement between Ethiopia and Kenya.
The quartet Fikadu Teferi from Ethiopia, the Kenyans James Kiplagat and Ronald Korir and the Swedish-Eritrean Samuel Tsegay broke away and were gathered just over five minutes before the finish line.
Shortly afterwards, Tsegay had to drop the lead, but retained his fourth place in the finish and thus became Swedish champion in marathon, and thus defended his title.
The next man to be forced to give up the battle for victory was Ronald Korir and thus only two men remained in the lead. Teferi and Kiplagat.
There was a fight in the riot inside Stockholm’s stadium, where Teferi decided shortly before the finish line.
Wikström second among the ladies
Also on the women’s side, it was an Ethiopian victory through Atalel Anmut.
Swedish Carolina Wikström was second, 53 seconds behind Anmut.
And it was not only Swedish Championship gold for Wikström, she also broke a new Swedish championship record on the women’s side.
