The use of missiles has significantly exacerbated the conflict in northern Ethiopia between regional forces and the Ethiopian federal government.

The fighting in the Tigris region has also affected Sudan, where at least 17,000 refugees from Ethiopia have arrived, according to UN figures.

The president of the Tigrai region, Debrecion Gebremaic, confirmed on Sunday that rockets were fired at the Eritrean capital Asmer on Saturday, but did not reveal how many. But he said Asmera was the only city in Eritrea to be shot.

The media reported that at least three missiles were aimed at Asmera airport.

The government of the Tigrai region accuses Eritrea of attacking Tigris at the request of the Ethiopian government.

The conflict for the Tiger began on November 4.

Ethiopia has undergone major changes since Aby Ahmed sat in the prime minister’s chair in 2018.

Ahmed was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize last year for his contribution to resolving a long-running border dispute with neighboring Eritrea.

However, the extensive reforms led by the Prime Minister have sparked disagreements with the Tiger People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), which has long dominated Ethiopian politics. Disagreements have escalated rapidly in recent weeks, leading to military clashes.

The Eritrean government has denied involvement in the conflict, but media reports of fighting along the border and wounding soldiers in hospitals indicate that Eritrea is involved.

Ahmed has become a close ally of Eritrean President Isaiah Afverki.
