Ethiopian Airlines Secures $450 Million Loan for New Boeing Aircraft

20. Dezember 2023 | Tim Nowack

Africa’s largest airline has entered into a $450 million loan agreement with Citigroup to finance five new Boeing aircraft: three Boeing 737 Max 8s and two Boeing 777 Fs.

“The loan is secured against the value of the five aircraft and was arranged exclusively by Citi’s corporate banking and export agency and finance teams,” explains Ethiopian Airlines. “It is guaranteed by the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM).”

The $450 million loan is Citi’s largest aircraft financing in Ethiopia in the last decade. It is intended to help “support both the bank’s efforts to expand its presence in the region and the airline’s ambitious growth plan,” writes the airline.
