“Eternals” falls but still leads the US box office | USA

Disney and Marvel’s “Eternals” suffered a sharp drop in its second weekend in theaters in the United States and Canada, but it still remains on top of releases like “Clifford the Big Red Dog.”

“Eternals” added $ 27.5 million over the weekend, increasing its national total to $ 118.8 million, according to study estimates released Sunday. The film, directed by Oscar winner Chloé Zhao and starring Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani and Gemma Chan, saw a 61% drop from its debut. While not uncommon for a great superhero movie, it was significantly greater than the 52% drop from the latest Disney and Marvel installment “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.”

Both films were shown exclusively in theaters, but the main difference is that “Shang-Chi” simply got better ratings from audiences and critics. “Shang-Chi” is now available on the Disney + platform. “Eternals” has raised $ 281.4 million to date.

The second site was for “Clifford the Big Red Dog,” which premiered during the week and was also available in streaming via the Paramount + platform. It grossed an estimated $ 16.4 million in 3,700 theaters over the weekend and $ 22 million since its release five days ago.

Blockbusters rounded out the top five with “Dune” in third place with $ 5.5 million, “No Time to Die” in fourth with $ 4.6 million, and “Venom: Let There Be Carnage. ”In fifth with 4 million.
