Figure skating coach Eteri Tutberidze spoke about the disqualification of her ward Kamila Valieva due to doping. She stated that she considers Kamila “the most gifted athlete” of all her students.
The coach published the post on social networks on January 31. She noted that she did not comment on the doping scandal for two years because she wanted the story to be thoroughly investigated. Tutberidze stated that she is for “clean” sport and all the athletes she trains remain “clean”.
According to the coach, despite the two-year investigation, she was left with “a lot of questions” about the scandal. At the same time, Tutberidze emphasized that she has no questions for Valieva and will continue to support the skater. “No offense to all my previous athletes, Camila is the most gifted athlete. And her sporting lot faced a test that is difficult to describe in words.”
At the same time, Tutberidze believes that the verdict was the worst possible, and wonders whether anyone defended Valieva at the hearings. “Camila’s story is our pain,” sums up the coach.
According to the source RIA Novostinow the figure skater does not attend training in Tutberidze’s group.
On January 29, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) found Kamila Valieva guilty of a positive doping test. She was given the maximum possible sentence of four years of disqualification, starting December 25, 2021. Thus, the Russian athlete will be able to return to sports only at the end of 2025.
