Through an official statement shared this Thursday, February 15, the Cuban Telecommunications Company SA (Etecsa) warned of possible effects on its Internet services and voice calls due to repairs being made to the fiber optic network.
According to this information, possible interruptions could begin yesterday and continue throughout February 16. The objective of the repairs is “to ensure the continuity and quality of telecommunications services nationwide.”
The statement, shared on the state company’s social networks, indicates that during this period of time users may experience a notable decrease in Internet speed and the quality of voice calls, especially during the early morning hours.
Given the situation, the telecommunications monopoly on the Island apologized to its customers for the inconvenience that these interruptions in service may cause, promising to finish these maintenance tasks “as soon as possible.”
“Technicians will be working continuously to minimize the impact and duration of service interruptions,” the Twitter post reads.
Etecsa points out that anyone with questions can contact them through different numbers.
We inform that on February 15 and 16 maintenance actions will be carried out on main fiber optic links.
During the work, slowness may be perceived in some services, mainly in the early hours of the 16th.

As expected, users on social networks showed discomfort with the interruptions and with Etecsa’s general services, pointing out that the slowness on the Internet has been experienced “since 2018.” Others were skeptical about the waiting times, saying that it was very possible that they could be extended for a few more days.
Thank you for informing us, we have noticed the slowness in services since 2018 when they began to provide Internet services via mobile data, greetings
