The Cuban Telecommunications Company SA (Etecsa) launched a new recharge special in an effort to attract foreign currency, offering to quintuple the balance of anyone who receives a recharge from abroad.
According to a statement shared on social networks, the state company will offer these benefits to those who recharge between 500 and 1,250 Cuban pesos (CUP) starting November 6.

The offer, which ends on the 12th of the same month, only offers five times the main balance, unlike previous promotions in which mobile data and “unlimited” Internet were also given away.
The company, which has a telecommunications monopoly on the Island, indicated that customers will be able to recharge themselves, this through their dollar account from the MiTransfer wallet, from the Transfermóvil application.
Those people who receive the recharge will also have their line reactivated for a period of 330 days, and will be able to use the balance they receive to make national and international calls, buy bags, packages, plans, make transfers and activate the Amigo plan.
However, Etecsa points out that the promotion will not extend the validity of data bonuses, “unlimited” Internet, combined plans or LTE packages that they may have from previous promotions.
Likewise, it is important to take into account that the company will manage the exchange rate of 24 CUP for each US dollar (USD) in this promotion, which represents a loss for users when compared to the official rate of (1 USD). x 120 CUP) and almost 200 CUP for every USD handled in the informal market.
As a result, the promotion has not been well received by Internet users, who point out that several previous promotions had presented better benefits.
