The state-owned Telecommunications Company of Cuba SA (Etecsa) announced its most recent international recharge special, promising some additional “benefits” if a recharge is made from abroad.
Through a statement shared on social networks, the telecommunications monopoly indicated that its offer will be available from October 9 to 14, and offers 30 GB of mobile data, 100 minutes for calls, 80 SMS and “unlimited” Internet if recharged in foreign currency. foreigners the equivalent of between 500 and 1,250 Cuban pesos (CUP).

The “bonuses” are activated immediately after receiving the recharge, and will be valid for 30 days. Likewise, the recharge will cause the main balance to retain its standard validity period of 330 days.
For their part, the 100 minutes can be used to make national and international calls, and those with active bonuses from previous promotions will be able to accumulate their benefits and extend their expiration date upon receiving the new recharge.
It is important to remember that the “unlimited” Internet offered by Etecsa is only available after midnight, and will end at 7:00 am, a time that is inconvenient for many.
The state company points out that it is possible for its clients to self-recharge through their dollar accounts on the MiTransfer exchange.
It must be taken into account that, for this option, the company works with the exchange rate of 24 CUP for each dollar, so a recharge of 500 CUP would have a cost of 20.83 USD for the dollar account.
In that sense, the official exchange rate, which is extremely lower than that offered in the informal market (around 200 CUP for each USD), makes many users criticize this “offer”, which is equivalent to more than 4,000 CUP .
And it does not even offer other benefits such as quintupling the clients’ balance, as had been done in previous months, which is why users on social networks consider that it is not “worth it.”
