Estuaire Adult Education Center (CEA) Offers New Courses for Seniors and Fall Hiking Program

The courses offered to seniors by the Estuaire Adult Education Center (CEA) are back. The registration period began Monday and ends September 15.

Launched in fall 2019, the course offering for seniors varies from one session to another. Through this project, the establishment specializing in teaching an adult clientele wishes to offer cognitive stimulation courses to a senior clientele.

“To do this, several training courses are possible to enhance or maintain skills in literacy, numeracy or even digital technology and thus allow seniors to maintain their cognitive health,” informs the communications manager at the School Services Center of the Estuary, Patricia Lavoie.

For this fall, the courses offered are Critical look at current events, History of the world wars and Use of computer resources. The latter will allow participants to familiarize themselves with the Internet, but also with software such as Word and Excel as well as multimedia, in particular the processing of digital photos.

Committed to diversifying its training offering in order to meet the needs of a wide range of the population in various fields of activity, the CEA de l’Estuaire’s main objective is lifelong adult education. .

New fall hiking course

Building on the success of the training on the basics of the outdoors and winter hiking offered last year, the CEA de l’Estuaire is continuing in this direction by this time offering a fall hiking course.

Taught by a physical education and health teacher, this training will consist of two outings per week on different trails in Manicouagan. Depending on their availability, interested people can, however, choose to participate in a single outing on a weekly basis.

Just like the courses for seniors, this training is completely free and it is possible to register until September 13 in anticipation of a first course which will take place on September 14 in the CEA premises and which will present the objectives and progress of the training.

Among the sites that will be visited by hikers during the fall, include Manicouagan Park, the Embruns trail, the Pointe-St-Gilles woodland, the Garde-feu bay lookout, Boréal Park , the Pointe-aux-Outardes Nature Park, as well as the cross-country ski trails of the Amédée River and the Norfond Ski Club.

Aquaforme

Still in the field of physical activity, the CEA de l’Estuaire is also offering aquafitness classes this fall twice a week.

Having filled all available places very quickly, the management of the Adult Education Center indicates that this activity, made possible thanks to the collaboration of the two secondary schools of Baie-Comeau, should be back in the winter depending on the availability of swimming pools.
