Estreux, royal land, with the coat of arms “azure with three golden fleur-de-lys”

Since the Middle Ages, coats of arms have hardly taken any wrinkles. Like countless villages in France, Estreux is very proud of its own.

There are hundreds of representations of animals on the coats of arms of towns and villages in our region. The lion, king of animals, is the most representative and has a great heraldic success as in Valenciennes, Maubeuge… But the flowers do not lose anything in the change and also remain well represented figures, like the fleur-de-lys in Estreux and… in Lille .

The lily, symbol of purity and loyalty

In the village, the coat of arms “azure with three gold fleur-de-lys”, emblem of purity, is one of the oldest symbols of the French monarchy in use since the Carolingians. Wearing a lily on one’s coat of arms meant belonging “to the King”. Estreux, royal land, is worth to the commune to legally bear the coat of arms of the kings of France (azure with three “lilies” of gold). Very few places can claim such an appellation.
