“Estonia’s Eesti Energia Faces Scandal Over Outgoing Board’s Bonuses”

In February, the board of “Eesti Energia” decided that the members of the board will be paid bonuses for success in the amount of three of their average monthly salaries. Therefore, the chairman of the board, Hando Sater, will receive almost 75,000 euros as a reward for his performance, while the other four members of the board will each receive around 50,000 euros.

In Estonia, the scandal surrounding the bonuses paid to the outgoing board of “Eesti Energia”.

Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas has emphasized that the payment of large bonuses is incomprehensible, because the board did not live up to the owner’s expectations and wanted to pay less dividends to the state treasury than would be fair.

The board of “Eesti Energia” is not going to change its decision and insists that the payment was made according to the results and the contracts of the board members.

Meanwhile, the former chairman of the board of “Eesti Energia”, Erki Rasuke, said that the government’s desire to prohibit the payment of bonuses and compensations to the company’s outgoing management seems mean and expressed confusion as to why such indignation, if it seems justified, had not been expressed earlier.
