Estonia’s Defense Line: No Real Threat of War with Russia, Says Minister of Defense

Estonia’s creation of a “defense line” on its borders, including with Russia, is not associated with a real threat of war. This was stated by the country’s Minister of Defense Hanno Pevkur after reports of the appearance of bunkers in Estonia due to an alleged threat from the Russian Federation.

“We have no real threat. If we are talking about bunkers, this does not mean that there will be a war,” said Pevkur in an interview with the Rus.Postimees portal.

He clarified that work on the construction of bunkers is planned to begin in late spring. Pevkur noted that, if necessary, anti-tank barriers could be placed on the “defense line,” but the authorities are not yet considering other measures to strengthen the border.

The Postimees newspaper reported that 600 concrete bunkers will appear as part of the creation of a unified defense of the Baltic countries in the east to repel “possible Russian aggression,” reports RT. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, at a press conference following his participation in UN Security Council events, said that the Russian Federation has “no desire, no need, to attack anyone somewhere” and called nonsense EU and NATO statements to the contrary.
