He noted that Europe and the West had frozen Russian funds and assets. “I think this money that has been frozen should be used to support Ukraine to rebuild it. It is not Russian money, it is blood-stained money,” Ilves said.
He also pointed out that Russia is a terrorist country that needs to be isolated.
Ilves also pointed out that NATO assistance to Ukraine should be increased. He hopes that next time the Secretary-General of the Alliance will have the courage to say, “No, you will not define our role.”
According to Ilves, Russia’s threat with nuclear weapons is not real. “If he [Vladimirs Putins] “I won’t press the order,” said Ilves.
CONTEXT:
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has been going on since 24 February. The talks have so far failed, and the French presidential administration announced on March 12 that Russian President Vladimir Putin now appears to be does not show any desire to end the war in Ukraine.
Russia’s action has paid off sharp condemnation from a democratic world. Western countries have determined several sanctions though against Russiathough against Belarussupporting the Kremlin’s decision to attack Ukraine. Meanwhile, more and more foreign companies are boycotting Russia and suspending their operations in that country.
