Estonian Embassy in China Standing Firm on Ukrainian Flag Display

The Estonian Embassy in China does not plan to remove the flag from the facade of its building in Beijing, despite the position of China, said today, May 20, the head of the diplomatic mission in China, Hannes Hanso.

He recalled that in 2022 Estonia became the first to place the national flag of Ukraine on the facade of its building in Beijing. According to the diplomat, later all EU countries with diplomatic missions in China also hung Ukrainian flags on the buildings of their embassies.

Hannes Hanso stressed: if you have to obey the will of the PRC, “Estonia will be the last to lower the Ukrainian flag.”

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Margus Cahkna completely believes that the decision to hang or remove the flag can only be the decision of Tallinn, “because we demonstrate our solidarity.”

Press Secretary of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kersti Meresma confirmed that the Chinese Foreign Ministry has asked all diplomatic missions in Beijing to respect Chinese laws and regulations, including the Vienna Convention and international agreements.

Previously EADaily reported that the Chinese authorities called on foreign diplomatic missions and international organizations located in Beijing to remove Ukrainian flags and posters in support of it from the facades.
