Estonia will provide Lithuania with 100 kilometers of barbed wire to strengthen the border with Belarus – in Latvia

Estonia will provide Lithuania with 100 kilometers of barbed wire so that Lithuania can strengthen its border with Belarus and limit the influx of illegal migrants, Estonian Defense Minister Kalle Lānets said on Saturday.

“Lithuania is a close ally of us, and our task is to provide immediate support to it in this crisis,” Lānets said after a conversation with Lithuanian Interior Minister Agni Bilotaitis.

First, 100 kilometers of barbed wire will be sent to Lithuania from the Defense Forces reserves so that the country can accelerate the strengthening of the border, the Minister pointed out.

“From August 1, we are ready to send three unmanned aircraft to Lithuania to improve the border surveillance situation,” he added.

The Lithuanian authorities have requested assistance, explaining that the construction of a fence on the border with Belarus is being delayed due to a lack of barbed wire.

Estonia will provide assistance free of charge.

Lithuania has also turned to other countries for help.

Lithuanian security forces have detained more than 2,430 migrants on the border with Belarus this year, which is 30 times more than last year.

Most migrants are from the Middle East and Africa.

The significantly increased flow of illegal migration across the border is an action of the Belarusian regime organized against Lithuania, the Lithuanian leader explains.
