The upper limit of the number of personnel of the Estonian army in wartime may be increased from 26,700 to 43,700 military personnel. The draft law was sent for approval by Minister of Defense Hanno Pevkur.
“The goal of increasing wartime personnel is to ensure that both the existing and future potential of the defense forces are provided with a sufficient number of defenders of the state. This will help us plan taxpayers’ spending on state defense with surgical precision,” Err.ee quotes Mr. Pevkur.
Wartime personnel in Estonia are formed from conscripts and reservists only after the announcement of mobilization. Its upper limit reflects how many military commanders of the country’s defense forces will have at their disposal when martial law is declared.
