Ester Ledecká Withdraws from Super Giant Slalom at Skiing World Cup Due to Ongoing Health Problems

Ester Ledecká did not participate in the super giant slalom at the skiing World Cup in Cortina d’Ampezzo. She decided to give up the start due to ongoing health problems, which cost her participation already in the convention on Friday. She entered Saturday’s race in the fastest discipline, but did not finish it after a mistake. The team of the Czech skier and snowboarder said that Ledecká will now move from Italy to Munich, where she will undergo another examination.

“I’m very sad. The virus is still clinging to me and I’m as weak as a chicken. It’s really not for me to rush down the hill at a speed of one hundred and twenty kilometers,” announced Ledecká.

She was supposed to enter the race in the same way as on Saturday with starting number one. In the morning, she warmed up and tried to ride on the hill. “But I lack strength. So we agreed with Franz (coach Gamper) that I will go back to bed and race when I feel at least a little better. Despite the efforts of the doctors, I am still not able to go to work,” Ledecká regretted.

He believes he will be able to start in a week in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where there are a downhill on Friday and a super giant slalom on Saturday. She is heading to Munich for the next examination in order to be as close as possible to the German scene. “I believe that maybe someone will finally put me in the pile, because it has been dragging on with breaks for over two months,” stated Ledecká.

Ledecká fell ill before the races in Svaté Morice, which took place at the beginning of December. Despite the cough, she raced and then started in Val d’Isere under antibiotics. She missed the pre-Christmas Snowboard WC in Davos to try to recuperate and returned to the Ski WC two weeks ago in Zauchensee. She wasn’t fit there either, although she recorded the eleventh place in the super-giant slalom, her best result in the ski WC since her return from a broken collarbone.

Last week she won both parallel slaloms on snowboard in Pamporovo, Bulgaria, but then her condition worsened again. After Wednesday’s downhill training from Cortina, she headed to Innsbruck for a lung examination. The team has not released details of its results, but the difficulties remain.
