Estepona will give a plot for the expansion of the Tomás Hormigo institute

The Estepona City Council will submit this Thursday to the municipal plenary session the transfer of a municipal plot of 5,148 square meters to the Junta de Andalucía to carry out the project to expand the facilities of the Tomás Hormigo de Cancelada secondary school.

The councilor attached to the Education area, Luisa López, explained that the Council will cede this land to the regional administration so that the educational center can be expanded with two more high school lines and the creation of two high school lines.

The launch of the baccalaureate lines will also have an impact on the decongestion of the Mar de Alborán institute, where until now the students of the IES Tomás Hormigo continue their studies when they finish compulsory secondary school. Likewise, he has indicated that «the plot that is going to be transferred to the Junta de Andalucía will allow the IES Tomás Hormigo to go from 3 to 5 secondary lines, so it will be response to the educational demand that may be generated in the coming years».

In addition to the plot that is going to be transferred to during the plenary session next Thursday, López has indicated that the City Council has also made two floors available to the Andalusian government so that the Ramón Lago school can expand its facilities and house an additional educational line , to which must be added the assignment of a plot to expand the Isdabe school by one more line.

The person in charge of education has indicated that the local government team, as soon as it became aware of the plans of the Ministry of Education of the Junta de Andalucía in the city, accelerated all the urban procedures to make the land available as soon as possible.

Luisa López has reiterated the Corporation’s commitment to the educational community, with which they maintain fluid communication to meet their needs and demands, according to the mayor.

Criticisms of the local PSOE

For its part, from the PSOE group in the town they have responded to the announcement of the government team stating that, to date, there is no not a single euro contemplated in the budget of the Autonomous Community to carry out the expansion action at the Tomás Hormigo institute in Cancelada, for which they have accused the local Executive and the mayor, José María García Urbano, “of sell smoke when announcing the transfer of the parcel ”.

The socialist spokesperson in Estepona, Emma Molina, has indicated that the transfer of this land occurred in 2004, governing both Andalusia and the municipality, and that now what will be carried out in full is a reparcelling, with which seeks to replace the initial soils, affected by an urban development, to obtain plots suitable for building.

“We celebrate that this reparcelling is made, because the expansion of this institute is very necessary, but we cannot allow the mayor to continue to sell with great fanfare actions that are long overdue and that also will not have the budget to be executed”, has Molina pointed out, who has demanded that García Urbano demand from his colleagues in the Andalusian Government the necessary funds for this expansion.
