Political life is a path that several athletes take after leaving their respective disciplines. Curiously, a bombastic name came to light in the last few hours to go for the mayor of Maipú: Esteban Efraín Paredes Quintanilla.
According to information provided by the media La Voz de Maipú, the idol of Colo Colo is one of the cards that Renovación Nacional handles thinking about the municipal elections of October 27, 2024.
The aforementioned media reported that “(from RN) they confirm that the candidacy was offered to a Maipucino, the former Colo Colo Goleador, Esteban Efraín Paredes. At the age of 42, the top scorer in the history of Chilean football played what would be his last game as a professional footballer in front of a packed Monumental Stadium.
“However – for the moment – Esteban Paredes would not have said yes; He also took down his soccer shoes and returned to play for San Antonio Unidos,” they added.
Obviously the name of the former striker is not the only one being considered in Renovación Nacional. Mario Desbordes, former president of the party and former presidential candidate, is also in the pipeline.
On the other hand, the Republican Party, the great rival of the traditional right in the next municipal elections, has Macarena Bravo as an option, a candidate for constitutional councilor who obtained 13,800 votes in the commune.

Esteban Paredes scored 198 goals with the Cacique shirt, being the club’s third all-time scorer. The former striker is only surpassed by Carlos Caszely (208 goals) and Francisco Valdés (205 goals).
When are the municipal elections?
The next municipal elections will be held on October 27, 2024. Tomás Vodanovic (Democratic Revolution) will seek re-election in Maipú against candidates who have yet to be defined by the political parties.
