The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, announced the resignation of Esteban Moctezuma from the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) to prepare for his arrival as Mexican ambassador to the United States to replace Martha Bárcena.
“We are very convinced, sure that we will have in Washington, we will have in the United States a good representative, a good ambassador, a person with principles, prepared, nationalist, aware of the principles of foreign policy of our country, especially the principles of non-intervention and self-determination of the peoples and cooperation for development, “said the Mexican president.
López Obrador thanked Martha Bárcen for the worka as Mexico’s ambassador to the United States and informed that she signed her letter as an ambassador of excellence.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank the very good work done by Ambassador Martha Bárcena who is leaving the embassy. I just signed your appointment as an Ambassador of Excellence Martha Bárcena, who has been doing a very good job during this time, receives this recognition and is preparing her retirement, her retirement in the Ministry of Foreign Relations ”, said the president.
Esteban Moctezuma, who today left her place in the SEP to teacher Delfina Gómez, thanked the president of Mexico for the new appointment who will soon assume in Washington.
“It is a day of mixed feelings. On the one hand, I feel a deep honor for having been appointed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador as representative of the Government, of the President and the Mexican State before the United States of America as extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador ”, said Esteban Moctezuma.
The next Mexican ambassador to the United States said he felt “sadness at the end of the work in the Ministry of Public Education” and said goodbye to “millions of teachers, friends and fathers and mothers” with whom he worked.
Esteban Moctezuma, who will appear in the Senate of the Republic of Mexico to ratify his new appointment, was born in Mexico City in 1954. He was the Secretary of Public Education in the López Obrador government since 2018.
THe was also Secretary of the Interior and Social Development during the Government of Ernesto Zedillo (1994-2000) and senator of the Republic. Now he will represent Mexico before the government of the new president of the United States, Joe Biden.
In the private initiative, he was president of Fundación Azteca, an organization in charge of social, educational and environmental projects of Grupo Salinas there in Mexico City.
