The nine Essonne clubs qualified for the 5th round of the Coupe de France know their opponents. Note a clash between Sainte-Geneviève (N3) and Racing CF (N2) and the Essonne derby between Saint-Michel (D1) and Igny (R2).
The Paris/Ile-de-France League carried out Tuesday evening, at its Parisian headquarters, the draw for the 5th round of the Coupe de France carried out by President Jamel Sandjak. The latter had a heavy hand for the Sainte-Geneviève FC (N3) which will host the Racing Club de France, 2nd in group C of N2, on Saturday October 14 (6 p.m.) at the Léo-Lagrange stadium. This will be the only poster between national clubs. The two residents of National, Red Star and Versailles, were spared since they will be opposed to two regional teams, Neauphle/Ponchartrain (R2) and Saint-Cloud (R3). Same thing for National 2 clubs, like FC Fleury 91 who will go to Charenton (R2), defeater of Paray (R3, 0-4) in the previous round.
On the other hand, the task looks tougher for theESA Linas/Montlhéry on the lawn of Houilles AC (R1), which had dominated FC Courcouronnes (R3) in the 4th round (4-0). “ It’s a complicated drawestimates the president of the Sang et Or club. Playing an R1, only one division below, and away, it’s obviously going to be a difficult match. We had a lot of feedback about the Houilles club, which has a great team on paper. It will almost be a N3 match between two championship matches (editor’s note: against CA Vitry this Saturday and at Sainte-Geneviève on October 21). It’s going to be 50-50, it’s up to us to hang on, to be strong to do well in this 2023-2024 edition. » Linas/Montlhéry is one of the seven N3 clubs in Ile-de-France still in the race with Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône. The Val d’OIse club will travel to Viry-Chatillon (R2), qualified for the 5th round for the first time since its epic 2018-2019 season which saw it reach the round of 16 (beaten 3-0 by Caen, L2).
After AS Saint-Germain-lès-Arpajon (D4) in the 4th round, it isASE Courcouronnes (D3) who will put on the outfit of Little Thumb from Ile-de-France in the 5th round. A status that this club created in 2020 shares with FC Villennes-Orgeval (Yvelines) and ES Herblay (Val d’Oise). But the march promises to be a little too high for the men of Sedjro Tobossi who will host Torcy (R1) at the Stade du Lac, the Stade Joséane Adelaïde not being approved. A second Essonne District club will compete in this 5th round. It is Saint-Michel Sports (D1) who will receive theAFC Igny (R2) at the René-Fayel stadium. An indecisive duel even if the Ignyssois are hierarchically superior on paper. Two other clubs from the department playing in the League championship have real chances of qualifying since the FC Morangis/Chilly (R2) and the FC Massy (R3) will receive clubs of the same level.
