ESR inter-union press release – Tuesday 1 October in higher education and research, on strike and in demonstrations For salaries, public services and the repeal of the pension law

Our trade unions and youth groups are calling for demonstrations and strikes on October 1 so that social emergencies can finally be heard, expressed in motions and at the ballot box.

At a time when the President of the Republic and the alliance of the right to the most extreme are trying to maintain an ultraliberal and reactionary course, the signatory groups want to move in higher education and research (ESR) , as part of the interprofessional day for pensions, salary increases for all and public services.

In the ESR, after a budget cut of 900 million for this year, a reduction of 400 million has now been announced for 2025. At the same time, France Universités estimates that 60 universities out of 75 would be in deficit in 2024 (compared to 15 in 2022 and 30 in 2023) and the frame letters that arrive components of some establishments already requiring budget restrictions for 2025. to eliminate statutory jobs or replace contractual jobs or transfers. Excess of TD groups, departures and non-replacement of administrative, technical and library staff, outsourcing, elimination of “mock” hours, reduction in operating budgets endangering the operation of a blade of research and training that has already gone from him, an explosion of hours and extra shifts. , etc. they are all pronounced declines.

In this context, it is urgent that we mobilize the necessary financial and human resources so that working and study conditions can be improved for everyone in the public service of the ESR. Funding of private, for-profit training through public subsidies must stop. Public money must return to the public service of the ESR!

Young people and students are among the first victims of these socially destructive policies. Student poverty is a reality at the start of the academic year. It is urgent to put young people in social protection, reform the scholarship system and eliminate selection at university entrance in order to succeed in ESR democracy by creating the needed places in higher education , establishing tenure for the excess contract workers employed in the long term. – careers, and by hiring permanent staff to welcome students and guide them to success. It is urgent to restore sustainable human and financial resources that meet the needs of public ESR

The month of October marks the beginning of discussions on the State budget and Social Security in the National Assembly. Now is the time to push for more fiscal, social and environmental justice. Now is the time to win pension reform and public services funding that meets the challenges!
