We live in a world in which technology has to advance at the same pace as the automotive industry, to offer a binomial that meets the demands of the contemporary buyer. This has led to firms like Tesla running some of the most advanced systems and solutions in the world, but this time they may have crossed the line. At the moment this insurance will only be available in the state of California but, without a doubt, it will end up expanding throughout the world if it is successful. Tesla insists that It is not necessary to install a telemetry system in the car to be able to classify how good or bad our driving is, since the Autopilot system will fulfill this function.
From an arbitrary and impartial point of view, it seems a fair system and, as the brand itself claims, leaves behind measurement parameters for insurance such as “gender, age or driving history.” What’s more, the points that Tesla will take into account to determine how much we will have to pay are the following: the times the four turn signals turn on every 1,000 miles – about 1,600 kilometers – due to emergency braking, hard braking, aggressive turns, not maintaining a safe distance and forcing the Autopilot to turn off.
In addition, Tesla estimates that those customers who use this insurance will be able to save between 20 and 40% compared to conventional insurance if they do not carry out too careful driving, while those more responsible drivers will be able to save between 30 and 60%.
But is it really ethical for them to know where you are at all times? We live in an era in which we accept cookies and “read” the privacy policy without paying much attention to it or without knowing very well what we are signing, so that, in a certain way, we are already exposed in many cases to being known about us. But this system requires knowing all your movements, where you are going and the changes you make on the route. We will see how this proposal by Tesla takes shape, which on paper sounds very good.
