Espadanal is a ″ nest ″ of Covid-19 in Moura, with 32 positive cases

Espadanal is, in the Portuguese language, a place where espadanas grow, the common name given to several species of vegetables. In Moura, Espadanal, means the place where Covid-19’s focus grows day by day.

The place, located two kilometers from Moura, next to Estrada Nacional 258, in connection with Vidigueira, where a gypsy community of about 150 people lives, has registered 33 positive cases, 17 of which in children and young people. The origin of the virus will be in Spain.

The transmitting agent was said to be the son of a man, who is about 70 years old and who has been hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of the José Joaquim Fernandes Hospital, in Beja, since last April 4, who was working in the neighboring country, according to revealed the parent to the health authorities.

The first case was known on Tuesday after the individual felt bad and was seen at the Moura Health Center. As the symptoms could configure a case of the new coronavirus, he was referred to the hospital in Beja, where he was admitted. Subject to tests, he was positive.

After this case was known, tests were carried out on all inhabitants of the Espadanal, and on Friday the Municipal Civil Protection Service of Moura (SMPCM) revealed that 17 children and young people had tested positive.

As soon as these results were known, the GNR mounted a guard on the site in order to prevent escapes, which have already occurred after the case of the elder who was hospitalized was known.

On Saturday, the SMPCM, coordinated by the Mayor of Moura, Álvaro Azedo, made fourteen more cases known, this time in adults, revealing that he continues to await the results of the harvests carried out in 30 more adults.

Álvaro Azedo, elected by the Socialist Party, ignored the Government’s determination, which prohibits municipalities from publishing COVID-19 numbers, having also done so on its Facebook page.

Whoever resorted to social networks was a grandson of the infected elder who made an appeal to the Roma community: “Guys, I ask all of you to say a prayer for my grandfather who has this virus. Please say this prayer”, asking also that everyone shares that request.
