“Surprise and concern is caused by the sending of an extrajudicial order by the Electronic Media which requires through SLAPP practices the “immediate deletion within three days” of publications related to the journalistic coverage of the high-interest criminal trial for the Energa case”, ESIEA emphasizes in a statement her.
“Among the posts that the media are asked to “delete” are party announcements, statements by those involved, advocates and even cartoons,” he notes.
“ESIEA’s Board of Directors expresses its deep concern for these practices, which directly threaten the principles of freedom of the press, and wonders if the editors of the extrajudicial after their demand to delete the electronic publications will also request the tearing or burning and of the newspapers mentioned in their criminal case.
We call on the government to take a stand, institutionally shielding the media from similar threats and SLAPP practices in cases of public interest,” the statement concludes.
