The meeting of the Central Committee of SYRIZA was marked, among other things, by attacks on journalists and the continuous targeting of some supporters (members or ordinary voters) of Stefanos Kasselakis.
Officially, Koumoundourou was the first to react. He even condemned what took place outside the room. On Monday, it was ESIEA‘s turn to issue a statement of support to the “colleagues who cover the report of SYRIZA, under exhausting conditions”.
The Journalist Union specifically denounced “the harassment received by a number of journalists, outside the venue where the Central Committee’s work was held last Saturday”, as well as “the targeting and threats hurled against them by Internet trolls”.
“Attacks aimed at intimidating journalists, whose only sin is that they do their work under grueling conditions, by outraged people who appear as supporters of Mr. Kasselakis, are not going to deter the people of information” it was pointed out.
Finally, ESIEA’s Board of Directors announced that “the free press is not going to succumb to hysterical practices or Internet trolls”.
