ESDM Expert Reveals the Type of Gold Chased by Maluku Residents

Ambon, CNN Indonesia

Geologist from the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Maluku said gold mine which was found by residents of the coast of Tamilouw Village, Amahai District, Central Maluku, has a small gold potential. The reason is, gold mining is in the secondary gold category (pleser), not primary gold that is formed directly.

Head of the Geology and Groundwater Division of the Maluku ESDM Service, Zulis Lona, said that the gold mine on the coast of Tamilouw Village was generated from weathering and erosion.

The secondary gold is then transformed through the media of river water channels and settles around the coastal estuary after being hit by the waves and throwing it ashore.

“So it is not primary gold that is formed directly, now it means that the source is in the upstream or mountains. If from the geological map of the mountainous region of Tamilouw Village it is an area of metamorphic rocks, the metamorphic rocks may form gold because there is mineralization in the metamor rocks,” said Zulis at the Maluku ESDM Building, Wednesday (24/3).

He revealed that so far his party did not know where the potential gold content was. The reason is, his party has to go through a special research process by deploying various tools to trace these gold veins.

Zulis explained that so far the Maluku Province ESDM is looking for gold deposits in soft rocks, gold is rarely found depositing on metamorous rocks.

“But I am sure metamor stone can also form gold, especially the veins of the stones themselves. So it is rather difficult for residents to find gold potential in the upstream, because determining the gold veins must use special expertise with technological equipment to determine. those golden veins, “said Zulis.

Zulis explained the initial way to look for gold, namely to conduct special research on the origin of the emerging gold mines. Next, go through the veins of the gold mine with any tools and how much is the potential for gold reserves through these veins.

He suggested it would be better if illegal gold mining activities without a permit on the coast of Tamilouw Village, Amahai District, Central Maluku should be closed immediately.

“Because if people mine gold without a permit, it violates, if they don’t have a permit, then they can’t, because it has a huge impact on the environment,” he said.

Previously, residents of Central Maluku were shocked by the discovery of a gold mine on the coast of Pohon Batu, Tamilouw Village, Amahai District, Central Maluku Regency.

Syarifah, a resident of Tamilouw Village who is said to have discovered the gold mine for the first time told his story of finding the mine with his two siblings.

“At that time my brother and I were panning for sand, but in the sand there were gold ores,” said Syarifah, Tuesday (23/3).
