NEW YORK (Dagbladet): Cavalcante was sentenced to life in prison for premeditated murder on August 16, after stabbing to death his ex-girlfriend in April 2021 in front of her two minor children. He is also suspected of a murder in his native Brazil in 2017.
On August 31, however, he managed to escape from Chester County Prison near Philadelphia in the United States where he was sitting while waiting to be transferred to another prison.
The police describe Cavalcante as very dangerous and desperate. Now he has been at large for eleven days without the police being able to arrest him. It has created fear in the local environment.

Stolen van
At a press conference on Sunday, the police say that Cavalcante stole a white Ford van on Saturday just outside the area where they have been looking for him, write Reuters.

Cavalcante is said to have then used the van to drive about 40 kilometers to East Pikeland where he attempted to contact a former work colleague at home. This led to him being observed on his ex-colleague’s doorbell camera.

– You will notice that Cavalcante is now clean-shaven and is wearing a light green hooded sweatshirt, says police inspector George Bivens at the press conference, according to CNN.
When Cavalcante disappeared from prison he had a beard.
The fugitive must have managed to steal the car because the keys had been left in the ignition.
Abandoned the car
The police further say that he then tried to contact another former work colleague in Phoenixville, about five miles northwest of Philadelphia. Nor was this ex-colleague at home when Cavalcante rang.
On Sunday morning, the police found the stolen van abandoned in a field. But Cavalcante was nowhere to be found.

Cavalvante is a Brazilian citizen, and is also wanted in his home country for a murder in 2017. The police also confirmed on Sunday that his sister has been arrested by US immigration authorities and will be deported.
Since Cavalcante escaped, he has been observed several times. Last week, several schools in the area closed after he was observed.
The police have also promised a reward of 20,000 dollars (about NOK 214,000) for tips that lead to his arrest.
