The Provincial Council of Palencia has presented ‘Escape Way’, framed within its summer programming ‘A desire for culture’, from a game that comes from known as ‘Escape Room’ but, in this case, users will not be locked in any room, but the action moves to the streets of the cities and towns of the Camino. It will be carried out in eight towns in the province of Palencia through which the Santiago’s road: Itero de la Vega, Boadilla del Camino, Frómista, Poblacion de Campos, Villalcázar de Sirga, Carrión de los Condes, Calzadilla de la Cueza, all of them members of the Association of Municipalities of the Camino de Santiago (AMCS), in addition to Moratinos.
The Camino exhausts have components of gymkana and geocaching, and each game has been personalized to the population where it is developed to promote knowledge of the Jacobean municipalities and the Camino de Santiago, through the use of new technologies. It is an initiative of the Association of Municipalities of the Camino de Santiago, promoted by the Ministry of Culture and Sports that is part of the official Jacobeo 2021 agenda.
The player must physically visit the municipality and download the app. Tourist offices and municipalities will have the Escapista Credential, a document where users will collect the stamps of the municipalities when they manage to solve the Escape. This document contains the QR Code of the App and the access code to the game.
After accessing the game, they will only have to solve the clues and puzzles that the application gives them according to their progress. To unravel the enigmas of the game, they will have to look at building facades, urban elements, physical components of the game hidden among its streets or other evidence of knowledge. After reaching the last trial, the player team must locate a relic-treasure.
‘Escape Way’ aims to “publicize the route of the Camino de Santiago as it passes through the municipalities in a different and entertaining way, with the fundamental objective of encouraging the visit of young people to the municipalities of the Camino accustomed to the use and enjoyment of this type of technological and recreational products in large Spanish and European cities ”, stated the president of the Provincial Council, Ángeles Armisén.
In this way, it is intended to promote that the neighbors themselves “play” and learn about their journey between 40 and 90 minutes of estimated duration of the game and that the pilgrims have new incentives during their stay in the town. All the escapes will be in a single application and in the same credential so that when doing any of them, the rest will be known. In this way, they will generate a calling effect with each other. The Association of Municipalities recommends that the games be held between a minimum of two people and no maximum participants. They also transport children under 12 years of age to be accompanied by an adult.
