The Scribner’s Catskill Lodge, member of the Design Hotels chain, is part of the generation of “destination hotels” for which it is the decor and a different travel experience that awaken the desire to leave.
Located in Hunter Ski Resort, facing the mountain, Scribner’s Catskill Lodge is a motel built in 1966.
The owners, including a former Soho House in New York, entrusted its renovation to the Takk studio in Brooklyn.
Two years after its reopening, it is always full. And for good reason: this establishment, in an exceptional green setting, brings together the best of today’s hotel industry.
Little touches
The 38 rooms with a variety of configurations, including a loft that can accommodate six people, play the card of almost Scandinavian simplicity.
White walls, dark maple floors, carpet vintage sheepskins, woolen throws, raw wallpapers and photos of road trips on the walls…everything has been worked out so that the visitor feels at home with a friend who would lend him his chalet for the holidays.
The little touches that make the difference? A humorous guide explaining how to survive in the Catskills, bedside books, essential oil care products that smell divine, and the necessary to s’mores for the evening in front of the fire on the large terrace at the back of a space lounge .
Community spirit
The owners wanted to revive the community spirit once dear to the nearby town of Woodstock.
The 1850 sq. ft. library lounge2 invites you to sit around the fireplace to discuss or discover one of the many new or old books chosen with care by the hosts.
A pool table brings together children and parents or friends after a meal at the Prospect restaurant with the air of a Swiss chalet.
We really liked the menu, created by Brooklyn chefs, using local ingredients, and the selection of ciders from New York State at fairly reasonable prices.
Mention very well also for lunch (included in our package) with à la carte pancakes as we taste too rarely.

Our Verdict
Price paid for one night
US$302 (taxes included, for 3 people with lunch)
Situation
At Hunter Ski Resort in the Catskills near Kaaterskills Falls.
Services
Free Internet, restaurant, bar, outdoor swimming pool, terrace with open fireplace, small shop with products for hikes with chocolate from Brooklyn!
WE love
The view of the mountain and the unspoiled nature of the concrete, the interior design and the furniture made by local craftsmen, the advice and, above all, the little touches that accompany the stay.
A damper
The shower which, in our room, had low pressure and a difficult to regulate temperature. Reservation only possible for two nights on Friday and Saturday.
A place to recommend for…
Disconnect from everyday life, go on a little adventure as a couple, with family or friends.
