It is not always easy to go to collection points to give blood. An association was therefore created in Escalquens to avoid travel and to meet donors. The teams of the French Blood Establishment thus have a branch to facilitate blood donation. This is how the association of Volunteer Blood Donors was created to help these teams in the collection, every month, of blood donations at the village hall, generally in the afternoon from 2:30 p.m. There are fifteen volunteers, all from Escalquens, who welcome the donors who are also received, before each donation, by a doctor. “In Occitania, 1,000 donations are needed every day to meet the needs of the sick. There are three conditions for this altruistic gesture. You can donate every two months, if you are over 18 and under 70, and if you weigh more than 50 kg. A health questionnaire allows us to get to know the donor better,” explains Jean-Paul Lacout, a volunteer for the association. It is advisable to make an appointment to avoid a long wait.
