The conflict continues in Sudan, leaving hundreds dead, in addition to the displacement of about 3 million people, including about 700,000 who have crossed the border into neighboring countries, according to the latest United Nations statistics.
The battles intensified between the Sudanese army and the “rapid support forces” in Omdurman, west of the capital, Khartoum, and in the city of Kass, south of the Darfur region, in the west of the country, while the head of the African Union Commission, Musa Faki, called for coordinating regional and international efforts to resolve the crisis in Sudan.
Successive explosions were heard in the south of Omdurman today, Monday, while the Sudanese army accused, in a statement, what it called the “rebel militia” meaning “Quick Support” of having “targeted Alia Specialist Hospital in Omdurman with artillery shelling,” which led to the injury of a sick woman and great damage to the center. The city of Kass, about 80 kilometers northwest of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur state, also witnessed fierce clashes with various types of weapons between the army and the Rapid Support Forces.
The Rapid Support Forces announced in a press statement yesterday, Sunday, that it had taken control of the command of the 61st Brigade in Kass, and that it had captured the commander of the military force and 30 members of the force, and had seized weapons, including combat vehicles, cannons and ammunition.
Aerial bombardment was also heard yesterday, Sunday, at a time when battles continue between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, which denied its accusation of killing civilians in the Darfur region, attributing this matter to tribal conflicts.
Residents in Khartoum said that “warplanes bombed gatherings of the Rapid Support Forces in the al-Juraif neighborhood, east of the Nile,” and indicated that “the Rapid Support Forces responded by using ground anti-aircraft weapons.”

For his part, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki, called for coordinating regional and international efforts to resolve the crisis in Sudan.
Faki stressed the need for coordination between the various regional and international efforts to end the Sudanese crisis, adding, “It is crucial that we pay the utmost attention to the coherence and alignment of all our efforts with the rest of the international community.”
Last Thursday, Cairo hosted the “Sudan’s Neighboring Countries Summit”, which approved the establishment of a mechanism at the level of foreign ministers to hold its first meeting in Chad to develop a practical plan to stop the fighting between the warring Sudanese parties and resolve the crisis.
In a joint statement, the leaders of the seven countries neighboring Sudan called on both sides of the conflict to abide by the ceasefire, and called on the countries of the region not to interfere in the conflict. They also warned of the possibility of the disintegration or fragmentation of the state of Sudan and the spread of chaos factors, including terrorism and organized crime.
