Escalated Argument with Shot Fired in Offenbach: Police Investigation Ongoing

Offenbach (ots)

(jm/lei) The background to an apparently escalated argument between two people on Wednesday morning in Karlstrasse, during which a shot was probably fired, is still completely unclear.

At 10:36 a.m., the police emergency number reported that two men had gotten into an argument on the street at number 36. Witnesses reported that one of the two, a 34-year-old, was armed with a knife and his opponent with what appeared to be a firearm and both initially verbally attacked each other. The argument must then have degenerated in such a way later that the 34-year-old is said to have threatened his counterpart with a knife. The opponent apparently fired a shot at the 34-year-old almost at the same time – apparently not with a sharp weapon, but presumably with an irritant gas gun, which caused the 34-year-old to suffer slight eye irritation. The suspect then fled in a white SUV.

One of the numerous patrols sent out immediately afterwards met the 34-year-old shortly thereafter in the course of the search and temporarily arrested him on suspicion of a threat; they found a jackknife on him. After police action, he was released. The officials also have concrete information about the identity of the fugitive, which still needs to be verified. Criminal proceedings were initiated against him on suspicion of dangerous bodily harm. The investigations are ongoing.

There were no indications of a risk to uninvolved third parties at any time.

Witnesses are asked to call the Offenbach police station on 069 8098-5100.
