ESC legend: Singer Martin Lee dead at 77

Brotherhood of Man singer Martin Lee has died at the age of 77. He managed to win the ESC in 1976 with “Save Your Kisses For Me” – the group is now saying goodbye.

In a press release, the group Brotherhood of Man announces the death of singer and songwriter Martin Lee. Aged 77, he died of heart failure on Sunday, September 29, after briefly falling ill.

Brotherhood of Man won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1976 with “Save Your Kisses For Me.”

The British pop group’s song went on to reach number one on the charts in over 30 countries and became one of the best-selling ESC singles in the contest’s history.

“We cannot imagine a world without Martin”

In the group’s press release, we can read: “He will be greatly missed by his colleagues in the group. Not just to Nicky Stevens and Lee Sheriden, but also and especially to Sandra Stevens, to whom he was married for 45 years.

Martin Lee joined the band in 1972 as singer and guitarist – just four years later he won the Eurovision Song Contest in the Netherlands with Brotherhood of Man. He collected 164 points, 17 more than France, second in the ranking.

After the victory at ESC, the group toured the world – until 2020, when they retired: “We have so many happy memories, but now we are in shock and we can’t imagine a world without Martin Lee,” the group members said.
