ESA and Swatch Collaborate: Design Your Own Space Watch with Stunning Images from Space Telescopes

Thanks to a new collaboration between the European Space Agency and Swiss watch company Swatch, space enthusiasts will be able to design their own watches using stunning images captured by space telescopes.

The night sky, filled with stars and planets, has captured human imagination since ancient times. Today’s space technology allows us to study space at greater depths than ancient astronomers ever dreamed of. ESA’s Science and Exploration programs capture incredibly detailed images from satellites and space observatories such as NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope, ESA’s Hubble Space Telescope, NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, and CSA’s James Webb Space Telescope. Aside from providing valuable information to space scientists, these images are beautiful.

Now, space enthusiasts can unleash their creativity with some of these iconic space images to design their own custom space watch, thanks to the European Space Agency’s collaboration with Swatch. For a limited time, Swatch is offering a collection of images taken by the European Space Agency’s space telescopes to personalize its collection of Swatch .

Thanks to the “Virtual Configuration Tool” on the Swatch XU website, creating and ordering a unique design is a breeze. After ordering, the ESA Space Watch will be shipped with an ESA loop on the strap, a special box and a postcard with an image of the space telescope used in the design. The designs will be available between October 4 and December 17, 2023, coinciding with the start of World Space Week, an international celebration of the contribution of space science and technology to improving the daily lives of people around the world.

Each custom watch in the Swatch XU collection comes with a postcard featuring an image of a space telescope used in your unique design.

Measuring time is an essential part of space science and exploration, so it’s fitting that the European Space Agency has teamed up with Swatch to create a watch aimed at space enthusiasts. In addition to allowing people of all ages to express their passion for space through their watches, this collaboration helps disseminate some of the most inspiring images captured by ESA’s space programmes. Images such as giant star nurseries revealed by the Webb and Hubble telescopes are helping to boost interest in space science and ESA’s ambitions.
