The island of Stromboli (Italy) returned to the center of the news last week, with another spectacular eruption that threw a huge amount of volcanic material into the sea. Fortunately, it seems that the intense eruptive activity seems to have gradually subsided in the last few days. A drone from INGVonce, flying over the imposing pyroclastic flows that slid along the Sciara towards the sea, he managed to seize the moment when this flow, once it reached the sea, generated a small tsunamilimited to the west coast of the island.
In the spectacular aerial images in clearly moment in which the wave forms, while around the Sciara the sea withdraws, leaving a dry stretch of seabeddiscovering it a few meters away. A few seconds later the wave arrives, flooding that small stretch of wild coast. Very impressive and educational images that have been around the world. In recent times, according to the INGV, the “bubbling” persists in the north crater, but it is less than a few days ago.
Apparently, the escaping magma rebuilt the flank that collapsed on 9 October giving rise to the great lava flow. From the seismic point of view, no significant changes were recorded. The mean amplitude of volcanic tremor continues to show weak fluctuations in its values and remains limited to medium-low levels.
