What can be done for the family? This is one of the main motives in the story of Adam (Adam Ernest) and Eliška (Vanda Chaloupková). The former musician served his time due to a tragic accident and is currently trying to make money in construction. But this is not enough to support the family, especially when a solid part of the income is subsequently drunk with friends in the pub. Therefore, the financial side is taken care of by Eliška, who, although she is the mother of a small child, still has to earn money on sexual live chats and fulfill the desires of lustful interested parties. Adam doesn’t like this, especially when he has to listen to nasty comments from guys, but instead of getting a better job, he solves the situation with more alcohol and increasingly toxic behavior. Everything then culminates in the titular night, during which the film takes place.

The creators therefore deal with the issue of Internet erotica from a rather interesting point of view, that of a rather lost man. Laňka tries to show how much influence this work can have on the seemingly harmonious relationship and intimate life of the couple; at the same time, he also wants to point out the fact that families can get into desperate situations due to financial difficulties. A big topic is the very modern trend of sexual live chats and Internet erotica in general, the phenomenon of which shocked even the creators and the cast.
“I think to myself that something doesn’t throw me off right away, but when I saw what people there want from girls and what girls are willing to undergo for money, I became even more interested in the topic of the film,” explains Chaloupková, who was waiting for a decent a number of intimate scenes and at certain moments she had to be replaced by a porn double. “It’s a world where nothing is abnormal enough and where women can easily lose self-respect and self-love. Not to mention how everything they experience in these chats necessarily affects their attitude towards men,” he adds.

Despite the strong motives, One Night did not shine in the cinemas and did not leave as strong an impression on the audience as David Laňka Spolu’s previous drama. However, it is precisely on Netflix, where a number of domestic titles catch a second wind and become popular hits here, that the film can achieve the desired success.
