That’s what Ernst Kuipers, chairman of the National Network Acute Care (LNAZ), told last night at the table at Jinek. Kuipers sat opposite Raisa Blommestijn, who is against the use of a corona pass.

Due to the strongly increasing corona infections, the cabinet is considering which additional measures should be taken. A press conference will be held next week.
Additional measures
According to Kuipers, every Dutch person finds it ‘incredibly important’ that care remains available to everyone who needs help. According to Kuipers, estimates by the RIVM show that in the coming period, another 23,000 people may end up in hospital due to corona and 4,800 in intensive care (IC).
Kuipers therefore said that additional measures are needed, but that it is difficult to determine which ones. “If 87 percent of the population is vaccinated, then you have to look for what you can do. Because everything is completely closed again, that is something we should not want,” Kuipers told Jinek.

However, lawyer and philosopher Raisa Blommestijn fears stigmatization of the unvaccinated, she told yesterday at the table. She calls it ‘really shocking’ that the cabinet is considering measures specifically for people who have not been vaccinated. According to her, the unvaccinated are to blame for the crisis.
cancer patients
Kuipers cites the influx of cancer patients in hospitals as an example. “A significant proportion of cancers have a risk factor, such as smoking, alcohol consumption or lack of exercise,” he explains.
“We could say: because those people come and need intensive treatment, the care is taxed. But we never say that in the Netherlands and we don’t say that with this one either,” says Kuipers about corona patients. “But you have to make sure that it doesn’t all come at once and in this phase of an infectious disease you have to do something.”

He mentioned targeted measures in municipalities where many infections and low vaccination rates are also an option. “I heard a pastor from Staphorst indicate that he actually did not consider it unreasonable not to let the choir’s performances go ahead and also to do the church services online,” said Kuipers.
He added that he is not talking about the new measures. Staphorst, like a number of other municipalities in the Bible Belt, has a relatively low vaccination rate.
Infections are rising
The coronavirus is spreading faster and faster. The number of positive tests rose by 50 percent last week. The number of hospital admissions increased by 34 percent and the number of reported deaths increased by 62 percent.
