Ernest Valts Circenis wins the competition for young composers of the Peter Wax Foundation


Riga, December 17, LETA. Ernests Valts Circenis won the first place in the competition of young composers of the Pēteris Vasks Foundation with the composition “Ķēdēs”, LETA was informed by the foundation.

This year, the jury evaluated the compositions by Pēteris Vasks, Baiba Kurpniece, Andris Dzenītis and Dita Krenberga. Nine instrumentalists interpreted nine compositions in the competition: Katrīne Kuģe, Ieva Lapkovska, Raimonds Gulbis, Laima Ratniece-Miltiņa, Alise Golovacka, Renāte Lodziņa, Elīna Saveļjeva, Elza Rubene and Varvara Zavjalova.

This year, the members of the jury decided to award one first place, one second place and two third places, as well as a prize for the best interpretation.

Alise Golovacka won the award for best interpretation for her composition “Chains”. Second place went to Dace Mangulsone with the composition “Infinite Fall”. The third place went to Marina Vidmonte with the composition “Spring Bird” and Henrijs Poikāns with the composition “Clarinetist from Picasso’s Painting”.

The Vaska Foundation organizes an annual competition to promote the creation of Latvian chamber music. The best composers are often selected for further collaboration in concerts organized by the Wax Foundation.
