Erling Haaland has a huge release clause for Man City – but PSG could afford it

Reportedly, Erling Haaland has a huge release clause in his contract with Manchester City that Paris Saint-Germain can afford.

Man City this week confirmed the £51million signing of Haaland from Borussia Dortmund in one of the most seismic transfers of recent seasons. The Premier League leaders have prevailed to sign the 21-year-old phenom despite competition from Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, PSG and Barcelona.

City were able to sign Haaland, one of the most successful strikers in the world, for a surprisingly low fee thanks to a release clause in his contract. And it appears Haaland’s reps have once again included a release clause in his new City deal that could see him leaving in a similar fashion.

Reports in Germany on Thursday claimed Haaland’s City contract included a £128million release clause. While this sum is far higher than what City paid, it is believed to be lower than the sum actually agreed between the Norwegian and his new club.

That means the Premier League title hopefuls would make a huge profit if Haaland is sold across the board, with The Telegraph reporting his new release clause is between £128m and £170m.

One of the few clubs to boast such a stunning figure is French giants PSG. The Ligue 1 champions were keen to sign Haaland before Kylian Mbappe could leave on a free transfer this summer but lost to City.

PSG have signed superstar players for huge sums of money in the past. They broke the world transfer fee record by signing Neymar for £198m in 2017 before dropping £163m to Kylian Mbappe a year later.
