Kevin De Bruyne had his sights set on the passes in the round of 16 in the FA Cup.
The show started already in the third minute when he hit the ball diagonally-inward-backward to Erling Braut Haaland who scored Manchester City’s first goal.
Haaland five-goal scorer
Haaland scored a genuine hat-trick in the first half and ten minutes into the second half, De Bruyne scored his fourth (!) assist for the Norwegian.
– Kevin De Bruyne is incredible. He does what he does best. It is a pleasure to play with him. We know what we both want from each other, it clicks well. He is a smart player and I like playing with him, Haaland told ITV.
To the quarter finals
Haaland’s final goal of the game, the fifth, was scored without an assist from De Bruyne. Mateo Kovačić then extended Manchester City’s lead to 6–2, which was the final score.
Pep Guardiola was pleased after Haaland’s and De Bruyne’s show.
– Kevin needs players like Erling and Erling needs players like Kevin. But we are not here without the other players. Everyone must have a lot of confidence, says the coach to ITV.
Drama in the Swedish meeting
Newcastle and Blackburn also played in the round of 16 on Tuesday night – a match that Newcastle won after 1-1, extra time and penalties.
Alexander Isak started for Newcastle but was substituted goalless in the second half. Yasin Ayari was substituted for Blackburn and scored in the shootout.
The quarter-finals will be drawn on Wednesday, February 28, when all the round of 16 have been played.
