During the European Championships, when Denmark faced Finland, Christian Eriksen suffered cardiac arrest. It kept him away from football for a long time and due to the fact that he had a defibrillator implanted, he was forced to break his contract with Inter.
In January, he signed for Brentford and just over two weeks ago, the Dane made a comeback on the football field. He was traded to Newcastle in the Premier League, after playing a couple of training matches for his new club.
Now the 30-year-old is also making a comeback in the Danish national team. He is selected in the squad that will play two training matches, against the Netherlands and Serbia, at the end of March.
In addition to Eriksen, stars such as Kasper Schmeichel, Andreas Christensen and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg a place in the squad. Simon Kjær and Daniel Wass are missing due to injuries while Martin Braithwaite, who is struggling to get playing time in Barcelona, is left out.
The national team captain Kasper Hjulmand also says in connection with the squad selection that it will be either Eriksen or Schmeichel who wears the captain’s tie in Kjær’s absence.
Denmark is already qualified for the World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
