Jakarta –
Bruno Fernandes has revealed the strict rules that Erik ten Hag imposed on Cristiano RonaldoJadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford in Manchester United.
Since taking over as coach at Man United, Ten Hag has begun to restructure his approach off the pitch and enforce his own laws. He has reportedly ruled that players must follow a strict dress code when representing the club, ensuring meals are at certain times at Carrington as well as adhering to a ban on cell phone use on away trips.
The Ten Hag also quickly eradicated bad discipline, especially in the case of Cristiano Ronaldo. The man from Portugal was punished for going to the locker room before the match against Tottenham Hotspur was over.
Ronaldo finally left the club by mutual consent in November 2022. Jadon Sancho was also exiled after failing to live up to Ten Hag’s standards.
Bruno Fernandes, as MU’s mainstay midfielder, admitted that the coach’s tough attitude initially surprised the squad. Some players had doubts whether the strict rules would really be enforced.
“The first time he (Ten Hag) arrived, we were on tour and the training sessions we had were very demanding. He said ‘you do it or you’re out. You don’t play’,” Fernandes said on Rio Ferdinand’s Between the Lines YouTube show for BT Sport .
“Everyone’s a little bit like thinking ‘Is he going to do that or not? If a big player doesn’t do what he wants, is he going to take it apart or not?'”
“And he did it many times, he did it with Cristiano, with Jadon, with Marcus,” confirmed Bruno Fernandes.
What Ten Hag has done so far is going well. MU has even started to be able to compete for the Premier League title because it currently sits in third position and is only five points adrift of Arsenal as the leader of the standings.
