Ericsson sues Apple over network technology patent infringements – IT Pro – News

The 3GPP could actually be even tougher, saying that if Apple doesn’t agree, then they’re out of the 4G/5G patent pool altogether.

What I have to think about this rant: And what does this ultimately benefit me as a consumer? Would without the possibility to patent:
“transformer filter arrangement” and “mobile communication terminal for providing tactile interface” or “transmission of system information on a downlink shared channel” have there never been a 5G standard?

Or is it just a nice bullshit way of large telecom companies to claim a piece of technology and earn good money, without really innovating?

I haven’t delved deeply into these patents, but it seems to me to be a rather broad portfolio that mainly serves as ammunition for lawyers and not so much the fundamental underpinning of innovative telecommunications. After all: the largest part of telecommunications is software. You end up with the misery of software patents.

So in itself, as a consumer, I can’t be bothered with Apple shaking things up. As they did before with Qualcomm’s double-dipping (put the market authorities on Qualcomm’s neck quite a bit).

That is extra problematic, because if Ericsson or another party bows to Apple, in principle they also have to offer those agreements to other market parties.

Cheaper phones for everyone. I can’t deal with that either.

If Apple loses, no problem, they can pay their fines from the stock in their cash warehouse.

However, it will be a settlement.
