Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Eric Thohir reveal the strategy of state-owned companies to overcome scarcity cooking oil.
According to Erick, the problem of cooking oil scarcity can be overcome by increasing cooperation between BUMN and the private sector. The reason is, the land area for BUMN plantations is only 4 percent and the contribution is only 7 percent. Meanwhile, the private sector controls more than 50 percent of plantation land.
Erick revealed that when cooking oil was scarce, BUMN some time ago shifted a quarter of CPO production that is not cooking oil to cooking oil. This is followed by market operations.
“That’s enough? No. That’s why from the start we tapped the private sector whose plantations were 50 percent,” said Erick while attending CNBC Indonesia Economic Outlook 2022, Tuesday (23/3).
Erick reminded that the economy can go fast if there is harmony. In this case, accelerating the pace of the economy requires cooperation between the government, BUMN, and the private sector.
For information, cooking oil prices have continued to climb since the last six months. In early February, the government had implemented the Highest Retail Price (HET) for bulk cooking oil of Rp. 11,500 per liter and packaged cooking oil of a maximum of Rp. 14 thousand per liter.
However, people have difficulty getting supplies of cooking oil. Finally, as of last Wednesday (16/3), the government raised the HET for bulk cooking oil to Rp. 14 thousand per liter. Not only that, the government also revoked the HET for packaged cooking oil.
In its development, the Minister of Trade Muhammad Lutfi said that one of the factors causing the scarcity of cooking oil, especially in three cities, Jakarta, Surabaya and Medan, was the action of the cooking oil mafia.
